The territory of Nitra has been continuously inhabited for almost thirty thousand years. Prince Pribin lived in Nitra, who had the first Christian church in Slovakia built and consecrated in the town. King Rastislav invited the Thessalonian brothers Constantine and Methodius to this territory to spread the Christian faith in their native language among our ancestors. We also owe Constantine for the first Slavic script - Glagolitic.
The most dominant monument of the city is the Nitra Castle, which was already a powerful fortress in the past, which also withstood the Mongol attack. The castle is entered from the Upper Town. The upper town is the most impressive part of Nitra, decorated with rare historic buildings, such as the Church of St. Peter and Paul, the Small and the Great Seminar with the Diocesan Library, which contains hundreds of rare books, originals and manuscripts, the Kluch Palace, the corner of which is supported by the Atlanta stone branch, intimately called Corgoň by Nitra. Nitra Castle, together with the fortifications, is the largest medieval fortified settlement.
