City of Nitra

Nitra is one of the oldest towns in Slovakia, which was established on seven hills. It can be said that it is a paradise for archaeologists. In addition to its rich history, Nitra is also known as a center of agriculture or a city of young people, as it houses two universities, namely the University of Constantine the Philosopher and the Slovak University of Agriculture.

The territory of Nitra has been continuously inhabited for almost thirty thousand years. Prince Pribin lived in Nitra, who had the first Christian church in Slovakia built and consecrated in the town. King Rastislav invited the Thessalonian brothers Constantine and Methodius to this territory to spread the Christian faith in their native language among our ancestors. We also owe Constantine for the first Slavic script - Glagolitic.

The most dominant monument of the city is the Nitra Castle, which was already a powerful fortress in the past, which also withstood the Mongol attack. The castle is entered from the Upper Town. The upper town is the most impressive part of Nitra, decorated with rare historic buildings, such as the Church of St. Peter and Paul, the Small and the Great Seminar with the Diocesan Library, which contains hundreds of rare books, originals and manuscripts, the Kluch Palace, the corner of which is supported by the Atlanta stone branch, intimately called Corgoň by Nitra. Nitra Castle, together with the fortifications, is the largest medieval fortified settlement.

Nitra - there are also new neighborhoods and housing estates, streets and paths, parks and parks, reliefs and statues, they are also new modern buildings, landscaped spaces, businesses and factories. There are also regular exhibitions in the area of Agrokomplex, the only exhibition center of its kind in Slovakia.

Every year, Nitra hosts cultural, sports and social events, of which it is worth mentioning the Nitra Cultural Summer, Nitra, nice Nitra ..., Theater Nitra, Nitra Music Autumn, Christmas Nitra and many others.
