History

According to an old legend, the healing springs were discovered by a lame shepherd in search of a stray sheep. He found a small lake with hot water, from which a sulfur odor spread and after a few baths he recovered.
The hot springs must have been known to the hunting peoples of Kvádov and Markoman at the beginning of our era.

They were probably also known to the Roman legions, an inscription on the Trenčín castle rock from 179; however, the first written record of the springs dates back to 1247. From the 13th to the 19th century, the territory of Trenčianske Teplice with thermal springs belonged to the owner of Trenčín Castle.

The Llésházy family, to which they belonged for 241 years, had the greatest credit for the development of the spa. At that time, the spa was one of the most important in Austria - Hungary. In 1835, the spa was bought by the Viennese financier Juraj Sina, who rebuilt and modernized it. His son Simon had a hotel built and expanded the spa park, and in 1888 his daughter Ifigénia had the most precious historical monument preserved to this day, the Hammam bath in the oriental Moorish style, added to the Sina mirror.
