The oldest material document found in Brezno and so far the largest local archaeological find is 14 bronze shoulder straps and two bronze cups, timed to the period 1250 - 700 BC. Cr. They can be considered one of the largest bronze finds in Horehronius; were accidentally found r. 1882 during excavation works in the Banisko pri Brezne locality.
Other bronze finds in and around Brezno; an ax found on the square in Brezno, a leaf spear from Podbrezová, an ax from Krám, bronze finds from the fortified settlement in Germany testify to the high role of late bronze bronze making in central Slovakia.
The oldest written source about the territory on which the town was later founded is a document from 1265 intended for a Liptov settler, which was ruled by King Belo IV. delimited the space of their hunting
