The village of Pohorelá

The village of Pohorelá is located in central Slovakia, in the district of Brezno in the Banská Bystrica self-governing region. It is the third largest village in Horehronie.

A picturesque village that remains true to tradition, surrounded by the beauty of the Low Tatras.

The first written mention of the village Pohorelá dates back to the beginning of the seventeenth century. The famous Hungarian historian Bálint Ila wrote it with his pen. Rich forests provide people with livelihoods and protect them from enemies and bandits. Today, Pohorelá is the third largest village in Horehronie. It lies at the foot of the Low Tatras below the Orlová hill. From the east, the King's staff, rumored by legends, looks at her. If you go south, you will see the charm of the vast Muránska plain. The river Hron divides the village into two parts. The northern Low Tatras and the southern in the Veporské vrchy area. Both sides offer the beauty of the mountains, many marked hiking trails and forgotten trails. The mountains will delight you with gurgling streams, rocky ascents and waterfalls, which suddenly appear on the road behind the view. Tourists come here who want to conquer the local hills, as well as people who want to take a break from everyday life for a while. Pohorelá lives the culture of her ancestors. The civic association Opora Pohorelá takes care of the organization of events to a significant extent. The village hosts an annual competition in manual mowing of the grass with a scythe, when the best competitors can mow half an arena in less than two minutes. The children's folklore ensemble Mladosť Pohorelá also operates in the village. The amphitheater, which has played several important groups of the Slovak music scene, serves to organize cultural events. Pohorelá gave Slovakia many important personalities. The prose writer, playwright and poet Jozef Gregor Tajovský also worked here. Even today, the village attracts everyone who likes to touch the roots of the local culture. Here you will find skilful carvers, patient embroiderers, tailors who still make traditional, richly decorated folk costumes, a furrier, a shoemaker who sews drops and boots to measure, and the last real blacksmith in Hore-hroní, who has been looking for since he was twelve years old. . The mountain hides many treasures, it's up to you to discover them first.
