The village of Šumiac

The most famous natural attraction in the village of Šumiac is undoubtedly Kráľova hoľa, rising to a height of 1,948 m above sea level. After Kriván, it is the second most famous hill in Slovakia.

There is a memorial room on the village square. It is traditionally furnished, as it was once furnished by the Shumanias. In one there are three environmental boards, sparkling costumes, classic sparkling furniture and products of the craftsmen. In the second, there is a corner dedicated to our native Juraj Kriváň and the folklore ensemble Šumiačan. There is also a unique private museum of bells and braids in the village, where the visitor will see a collection of more than 2,000 bells of various shapes, sizes and sounds. In 2011, Ing. Simon Gordan and John Gordan on the hillside build a Stations of the Cross, which consists of 14 stops of stone. The only building material used for the construction is stone. There are 12 stones on the Way of the Cross, on which are carved 12 names of the apostles. At its top is a stone altar and a wooden cross. This Stations of the Cross is the only one in Horehronie. The oldest building in the village is the Baroque-Classicist Greek Catholic Church of the Ascension of the Lord with an adjoining, relatively large cemetery. It was built between 1775 and 1777. Other sacral buildings are two chapels, also called "chapels". One stands by the water spring in Teplice and dates from 1900. It is intended for the pastor during the church ceremonies of the consecration of water at the Three Kings in bad weather. The older and more exhibited chapel was built on the square in 1823 and is located right in the middle of the village. Mourning processions with the deceased stop in front of this chapel. Here, symbolically, for the last time, they traditionally say goodbye to their home village when the accompanying ringing of bells is silenced.
