In the eastern part of the Horehronské podolia, in the Muránska planina National Park and with a view of Kráľova hoľa, lies the village of Vaľkovňa.
The village of Vaľkovňa was established in 1954 by independence from the village of Šumiac. It consists of four settlements: Nová Maša, Švábolka, Vaľkovňa and Zlatno. It got its name from the name of the settlement Vaľkovňa, where a sheet metal rolling mill was built around 1834. An interesting feature of the village are three bell towers, which date back to 1804. In the settlement of Zlatno in the Zlatnica valley, through which the stream flows, gold was once mined. The remains of the original rolling mill, the Protestant church and ancient buildings are remnants of a thriving industry in the past.
