The village of Polomka

Polomka is the largest territory in Horehronie in terms of territory and population. It is located in the central part of Slovakia, in the district of Brezno. It is surrounded by beautiful but also rugged nature. It has a rich history and ethnographic heritage, a diverse present and interesting opportunities for further development.

Today, Polomka is a modern village with a complete network of shops and services, civic amenities and infrastructure at a high level. In winter, the Polomka Bučník ski resort, which is located on the northern slopes of the Slovak Ore Mountains, provides sports activities. The advantage is free parking, which is available directly at the entrance to the lifts. Three downhill runs (one easy and two intermediate) are technically snowed and regularly maintained. The resort is suitable for families with children, beginners, but also advanced skiers. The resort offers refreshments and accommodation in the pension Bučník. There are also sports and cultural events in the area of the resort, such as a carnival slaughterhouse, an adrenaline rush race or the folklore festival Horehron, Horehron, the beautiful Horehron. The village has built two multifunctional sports fields with artificial grass, a gym and a sports stadium, where various cultural, social and sporting events take place, such as village days, Polomský western and rodeo, night firefighting competition and football matches. Polomka is a place where cultural heritage is still preserved and cultivated. Here you will find examples of traditional architecture and costumes, customs and traditions are also observed here, as well as traditional crafts. Folklore and local traditions are mapped, preserved and interpreted by the folklore group Brezinky, which covers all generations. The village is exceptional for its characteristic dialect, which is not similar to the dialects in neighboring villages, nor in any other region in Slovakia. Even today, you can meet older women dressed in folk costumes in Polomka. During the holidays, especially church holidays, men, children and young people also wear the costume. Traditional cuisine has also been preserved here: "heated with meat", "krompak" in cabbage or "pike chamula". Local housewives are known mainly for sweet pastry - pulled Polom strudel. The village has undergone extensive reconstruction in recent years. School buildings, a culture house, a municipal office, buildings for general practitioners and specialists, a pharmacy, a park with a new fountain, local roads and new car parks were restored. All efforts are aimed at increasing the comfort of life of residents and visitors to the village.
