The village of Beňuš lies in the central part of the Horehronie valley. It includes parts of Gašparovo, Filipovo and Pížišovo.
It is surrounded on the north by the Low Tatras and on the south by the Slovak Ore Mountains. The first written mention of the village can be found in the Breznian charter from 1380. In the earliest times, rafting, mining and metallurgy flourished on Hron, later lumbering.
