In 1753, the inhabitants of the settlement of Krám built a wooden church, which in 1804 replaced the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In almost all the settlements of which Čierny Balog consists, there are various chapels and crosses. Probably the most famous cultural and historical monument is the narrow-gauge Čiernohronská railway. Its history and present is connected mainly with the efforts of many people to preserve this exceptional railway for future generations. A Forestry Open-Air Museum has been built in Vydrovská dolina with expositions focusing on logging and wood processing, forest management and the daily life and work of loggers. Dobročský forest is one of the oldest protected areas in Slovakia. It is located only six kilometers from the village Dobroč in Pod Geraukou. The uniqueness of the forest lies in the fact that it develops in a natural cycle, in which all the developmental stages and phases that flow without human intervention are represented. There is also a primary school in the village, which is about two kilometers from the center, but also remains part of the beautiful natural scenery. The elementary school complex consists of four separate buildings. Two older pavilions from 1961, one three-storey new pavilion from 1991 and a two-hall gym, which students have been using since 1978. Pupils are also educated thanks to modern equipment, the school has nine vocational classrooms and conditions for education are constantly improving. you can go on trips to the Muránska planina National Park, which attracts with its natural beauty, quiet forest and wonderful views of the surroundings. In winter, the extensive slopes offer sports activities for young and old, beginners and experienced skiers. Čierny Balog simply lives all year round
