Iron ore was mined here. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the ironworks in Hronec supplied iron tools and other products to ironworks and smelters in Banská Bystrica, Kremnica and Banská Štiavnica, which produced precious coin metals. There is a foundry in Hronec, whose tradition dates back to the end of the 18th century. In 1810, the first cast iron bridge in Central Europe was built here. In the nearby mountain valley in the locality of Tri vody, you can find the remains of a blast furnace, which was built in 1795. In the classicist Roman Catholic Church of St. Klementa, built in 1826, are beautiful colored stained glass windows with biblical scenes, made in the Budapest workshop of J. Pálka. Above the local square stands the two-storey building of the bell tower from 1835 with a set of four historic bells and a museum exhibition of cast iron tomb crosses on the ground floor. In the village and its surroundings there is a unique set of nine chapels, built in different historical periods. The economic prosperity associated with the developed industrial production brought to Hronec, compared to the surrounding villages in the region, a higher level of social and cultural life. Equally interesting is the folk architecture, which was influenced by the years of presence of foreigners. Here you will find the original houses of Tyrolean miners. They are wooden and stone with saddle, originally shingled roofs, later covered mostly with sheet metal. The houses are three-room with an entrance directly from the street to the kitchen and have two rooms on the sides. There are also the original log houses of workers and miners of Slovak origin. Other cultural and historical monuments are the Baroque manor house from the middle of the 18th century, the cross of the cast iron Calvary from 1845 and various sacral monuments, including the nine chapels of the Stations of the Cross in Bašta pod kalváriou. There are memorials and a monument dedicated to the memory of the Slovak National Uprising from 1955 from the period of the battles of the Second World War. An interesting technical rarity, a narrow-gauge railway and the Hrončok reservoir are also popular with tourists. The village of Hronec is surrounded by beautiful nature. In winter, the ski resort is actively used by locals and tourists alike. If you want to find yourself in the embrace of untouched nature with a touch of mystery, you can take advantage of the beauty offered by Hrončokový grúň, a state nature reserve with the character of a forest, or take a walk along the nearby nature trail. For those who prefer to travel by bike, there are several starting points for the cycle routes Hronec - Hájny grúň - Hronec, Hrončok - Danková and Hronec - Tri vody. Various events take place regularly in the village and tourism is also connected with the nearby biathlon area in Osrblie. A carnival is regularly organized here, a competition for the most delicious "Janský" goulash and a St. Nicholas portion for young and old. The local specialties are fried frog legs, frog legs on cream and fučka - "spolkiňa". Would you like?
The popular actor Ladislav Chudík and the first Olympian of Slovak nationality from 1896, athlete Alojz Sokol, was born here. Hronec has various traditions, but the most beautiful is perhaps the tradition of tolerance and friendship. Thanks to the years when different nationalities alternated here, which brought with them their own traditions, the domestic citizens created a wonderful atmosphere of multiculturalism in a very small space. Therefore, they will certainly be happy to welcome all new visitors and casual passers-by.
