The first written mention dates from 1563. In the village there is a Roman Catholic Church of St. Florian, Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk and a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Lourdes. In the middle of the village near the kolkárna, which has a tradition since 1930, stands a statue of St. Florian - patron saint of firefighters. However, the village of Bystrá is also the birthplace of important personalities. The founder of Slovak-Bulgarian relations, editor and pedagogue Jaroslav Samuel Zachej was born here in 1841, and the novelist František Švantner in 1912. In 1940, the poet, translator and lyricist Marián Kováčik saw the light of day in Bystra. Forestry expert, rector of the Technical University in Zvolen, member of SAS Dr.hc prof.
Ing. Adolf Priesol, DrSc., Was also a native of Bystra. In the village there is the Bystrianska Cave, which is known for offering, in addition to parades, speleotherapy - treatment of the upper respiratory tract. Also nearby is the Cave of Dead Bats, which is the only accessible alpine cave in our country.
