Dvorníky together with Hontiansky Tesár lies in the valley of the river Štiavnica on the eastern edge of the Ipeľ Uplands and the southwestern edge of the Krupina Heights at an altitude of 145 to 303 meters. The first written mention of both villages comes from the 13th century. In 1279 King Ladislav IV. donated this territory to Demeter Hunt for his services in the fight with the Czech King Otakar. In 1971, the villages of Hontianske Tesáre and Dvorníky merged together with Šipice and Báčovce under one municipal office based in Hontianske Tesáre.
