The village of Bánov

The village of Bánov is located in the district of Nové Zámky. The first written mention of the village dates from 1113.

Originally it was the village of Kesy (Kescu and its part Quescu) and belonged to the Zobor Abbey. Then Duke Ban got it and Bánkeszi, today's Bánov, was born. For centuries, however, it was known as Kesy or Kesa and the inhabitants as Kesania. Bánov is located in a flat part of the Danube plain, just a few kilometers from the towns of Šurany and Nové Zámky. In ancient times, the road from Moravia led through Šaštín, Bratislava and Hlohovec to Esztergom and crossed another important road, the Nitra Road. At the time when the village was a royal property, it had only 250 inhabitants. Later, she sought protective wings from the Turks and Tatars from the owners of Šurian Castle. Even so, it was ravaged by the conquerors, leaving little of the original inhabitants. The nobility sent here to live subjects from western Slovakia and Moravia, and so we still hear the Moravian dialect here from time to time. After the abolition of serfdom, many workshops, craftsmen and guild masters were established in Bánov. The village developed again, crafts flourished. At the end of the 19th century, the inhabitants built their own municipal mill in Nitra, Sihota, which ground until the 1950s, when it burned down. At the turn of the century, the railway from Nové Zámky to Šurian also brought development. She gave the Banovites a job, despite the fact that the sparks from the locomotive destroyed almost the entire crop in the fields during one season.

Let's take a look at the current Bánov, a modern village with a rich history. It is definitely worth stopping at the Church of St. Michala. Also due to the uncertain age of this monument. It dates back to 1842, but the church of the same name is mentioned in some writings in the Banes of Kesy five hundred years earlier. St. Michael, the archangel is also in the old seal of the village, so it is probable that the foundations of the church stood at least in the 14th and possibly in the 13th century. You will definitely not miss the church, it is a natural feature of the village. Bánov has not only a rich cultural and sports present, but also traditions. After all, the amateur theater has been operating here for over eighty years, and the sport, which is dominated by football and table tennis, also reaches eight crosses for a while. For more than a quarter of a century, the Bánovians have been involved in the non-traditional brass band Kesanka. But she is not the only one. Almost everyone here recognizes the brass band, because in addition to the large Bánovčanka brass band, the Bánovčians have been raising followers in the Rosička children's brass band for almost a decade. All brass bands are successful not only in Slovakia, but also abroad. And he who does not play sings. There are also three choirs in Bánov - Galabriel, Rozmarinky and Bánov seniors. And the Banovites are not even 4,000 in total! It is also called Bánova of all kinds.

Kesanias will remain Kesans in Bánov as well. After all, the civic association Kesa Nostra, which organizes most of the cultural and social events together with the municipality, is not only a word toy on the Italian Cosa Nostra, but in translation it really means our Kesa.
