In the middle of the village rises its dominant - the Roman Catholic Church of St. Cyril and Methodius, which is visible from a distance of several kilometers thanks to the high tower. Parish Church of St. Cyril and Methodius, originally consecrated to all saints, was the first in Upper Hungary, ie in the territory of present-day Slovakia, to be consecrated to the Thessalonian brothers.
The year 1863 was the celebration of the millennial anniversary, when the Thessalonian brothers began an apostolic mission to the Slavs. Július Plošic, a zealous priest and nationalist who was working in Selce at the time, organized a magnificent all-Slovak celebration, which took place on the feast of the Holy Trinity, on May 31 in Selce. Altar painting of St. Cyril and Methodius, painted for this event by the painter Július Jonáš, was consecrated on this occasion by the Bishop of Banská Bystrica, Štefan Moyzes, and the Selčian parish church thus became the first church dedicated to the Thessalonian brother. In the unfavorable conditions of the 19th century, when national oppression was strong, this unique celebration was the most massive and largest celebration of the millennium of the arrival of the Thessalonian brothers in Great Moravia. The restored painting is located in the sanctuary of the church and Selce is the main center of Cyril and Methodius veneration in the Banská Bystrica diocese, where the Cyril and Methodius diocesan pilgrimage takes place every year on July 5.
