The first mention of Turkey is from the 16th century. It is interesting that they do not relate to mining, metallurgy, or lumbering or coal mining, but to mountain farming. In the 17th century, however, the settlement of Thurezga appeared on the inventory of coal settlements. In addition to coal miners, miners, metallurgists and various craftsmen already lived here at that time.
Today, Turkey is best known for the Haluška Fest event. Nowhere else were the championships of Slovakia and even Europe earlier than in Turkey. This non-traditional festival has been held here for a quarter of a century. However, the history of the scallop race is even older. The sleigh, which was used for weighing wood, began to compete in the village as early as 1957. It is a pity that the local ski resort Krížna lost its former luster.
