The village in the Slovak Ore Mountains, originally from 1293, has a rich history. It had an important position in Zvolen County and until 1950 it was the seat of a notary for the surrounding villages.

Adam Chalupka worked here, his son Ján Chalupka was born here, as well as August Horislav Krčméry and his brother Eugen Krčméry. In 1883, they made moldy cheese here in the bryndziarna, which competed with Roquefort. Thanks to the accessibility from Banská Bystrica, the village is also interesting for new residents. For tourists, the Gothic Church of St. Michael or classicist evangelical from the 18th century. On the Kozlinec hill there is a protected reservation of felt oak.
