The village of Pusté Úľany is located in southwestern Slovakia in the northern part of the Danubian Lowland. Territorially, it belongs to the Trnava self-governing region with its seat in Trnava. The district town is Galanta.

The territory of the village belongs to the territories with the lowest forest cover in Slovakia. Forest land makes up about 6.62% (1,626,354 m²) of the area k. account. South of the village there is a more continuous area of deciduous forest, which belongs to the oak vegetation stage. The forest has the character of a floodplain forest and is characterized by rich fauna.

Another characteristic feature is the richness of water and fish in local streams. The water areas are formed by a system of six ponds and a network of three streams and three irrigation canals.

An important natural feature of the village is the Úľanská wetland. In the originally marshy area, which stretches on the floodplain of Stoliční potok, Trnovský canal and Nový potok, a rich flora can be found. A survey of this area has shown that there are critically endangered species and plants in danger of extinction, as well as highly endangered species, several of which are currently registered in only a few localities. The overall peat character of the country is also documented by extensive peat bogs and the occurrence of peat, which was mined here in the past.

The southern border of the cadastral territory of the village is formed by Čierna voda with old meanders (dead branches), characterized by coastal vegetation, wetlands, meadows and meanders with willow - poplar stands. In the cadastral area there is Stoličný stream, which has similar characteristics as Čierna voda and Úľanská mokraď, which surrounds it. About 700 m south of the village Lúčny Dvor is the Little Danube.

An important characteristic of the local nature is the diversity and richness of birds. As part of the Natura 2000 project, the area covering the area of Úľany ponds and floodplains was declared a protected bird area of supraregional pan-European importance. Protected area Pusté Úľany - Zeleneč with a total area of 21,240 ha is one of the three most important areas in Slovakia for nesting species: Circus aeruginosus and Circus pygargus. More than 1% of the national population of Ixobrychus minutus, Galerida cristana, Coturnix coturnic, Falco vespertinus, Falco cherrug and Milvus migrans nest here regularly.
