The village of Sokolce

The village located on Žitný ostrov in the western part of the district less than thirty kilometers from Komárno is dominated by a Calvinist church from the second half of the thirteenth century.

Sokolce is first mentioned in 1332 as the settlement of Laak, which was the property of the landowner Mikuláš Zemurfia. He sold it to the Laki family, who derived their name from its name. The area of the village is a fertile plain with old river branches, river mounds and drainage canals. Since its first written mention, Sokolce has had an agricultural character, which they have preserved to this day. The modern history of the village is closely connected with the development of the local agricultural cooperative, which was founded here in 1957 and today is one of the largest in the area. The cultivation of cereals, maize for grain and the raising of cattle and pigs creates job opportunities for a large part of the local population. The cooperative also has its own mill and in 1995 opened a shop in the village with meat and meat products. The church of the Reformed Christian Church is one of the biggest cultural monuments in Sokoliec. The original church was built in the middle of the village as a single-nave building probably during the second half of the 13th century. This is also supported by the Bela IV charter. from 1268, which mentions the church in the village of Zakalus. Later it underwent extensive reconstruction in the Gothic style and in the 18th century, after the expulsion of the Turks and the end of the estate uprisings, it was restored in the Baroque style.

The present form of the temple was given in 1936 by adding a high tower to the west facade. Sokolce with more than 1,200 inhabitants is currently a village with a rich social life. The modern cultural house witnesses regular performances by domestic and guest ensembles. Events such as village day, children's day or the Lakikatlan goulash cooking competition, as well as the Mozgatlak running competition, have become traditional. In addition, the local government is preparing other sports events, children's camps and programs for seniors.
