The village of Dolný Ohaj

In addition to Zittau, farmers have always prospered.

The territory of the village was inhabited by people in the Neolithic. Excavations speak of this, which later confirmed the existence of a Slavic settlement and burial ground. The first written mention dates from 1293, when the local territories belonged to landowners and peasant families. Later, the Turks swept through the territory. The village marked it so much that it had to be inhabited by inhabitants from Moravia. The later culture of the village was also marked by the fact that it is located on the Slovak-Hungarian ethnic border. It was mostly a peasant village in which not many cultural and historical monuments have been preserved. Those who remain include the Baer family manor and the birthplace of politician and agricultural expert writer Július Rubinek. From 1919 to 1920 he was even the Minister of Agriculture in Hungary and for some time also the Minister of Trade. Among the dominants of the village is the Roman Catholic Church of St. family with the side Chapel of St. Františka, the building of the rectory in which the Štúrovec J. Holček worked, the building of the distillery and starch factory and roller mill. The present of the village depends on its location. It is interesting for the tourist with its surroundings and the fruits of the country, for the inhabitants with the conditions they create together. Like all similar large villages, Lower Ohio has a number of events that make the lives of locals special and sometimes attract new visitors.

For example, fishing competitions or a music festival during the days of the village - Ohajský Kenderáš. From sports, football dominates here, and this is something that Ohajčians are rightly proud of. They have a team that plays the highest district competition and at the same time only home and unpaid players kick for the village. This is already a very nice business card.
Tourists should definitely see the Chapel of Blessed Sister Zdenka Schelingová. It is a modern building, but it is unique. The cycling route will take visitors to the natural monument Potok Chrenovka and its meander.
