Between the Danube and Hronom, at the foot of the hilly terrain, right in the middle of the dividing line between the two rivers, lies the rural settlement of Gbelce - Köbölkút.
In the ancient past, prehistoric people also liked this place. Rich excavations testify to this. Around the year 1000, the "settlement by the stone well" belonged to King Stephen I. The importance of this area increased in XI. century, because the cross was led by a very important "salt road". A royal mayor was established next to the "stone well". This settlement was later called Köbölkút, meaning "well of stone". This is how Gbelcie is mentioned in a document from 1233. In the north of the Gbeliec area, cane is grown in the marshy terrain of the Paris Canal. Few municipalities in Europe have such a diverse swamp locality in their cadastral area as Gbelce. The Paris Swamp National Nature Reserve with a lookout tower, unique fauna and flora is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
