The village of Oreské

The inhabitants of Oreský are not peasants, on the contrary, they prefer to stand in front of the oven and bake. Bakery production has strong roots here and every June it takes place in the village of Den Dzedziny. Then traditional gourd cakes come to be tasted by gourmets from a wide area.

The oldest written mention of the village can be found in the deed of gift of the Hungarian King Sigismund of Luxembourg from 1392. The most important sacral monument is the Roman Catholic church from the beginning of the nineteenth century. In the year 2000, it was expanded and modernized, at present it is dedicated to St. Medard and in front of the church there is a reconstructed statue of St. Medarda. The church is decorated with the Stations of the Cross by the famous academic sculptor Professor Zdravecký. Several important personalities were born in Oresk. The most famous of them was Elemír Jozef Mikuš. He was ordained a priest in Turin in 1957 and later became a co-founder of the Institute of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Rome. He worked in Germany and Vienna, where he helped Slovak emigrants to establish themselves in a foreign world. The second important native was the Salesian Father Medard Štepanovský, who, after fleeing his homeland, worked and spread the faith in the German city of Buxheim. The current village has almost four hundred inhabitants who live a sociable life.

There is no shortage of social, cultural and sports events throughout the year. Its beginning is already an integral part of a children's masquerade ball. This is followed by carnival celebrations, a general slaughterhouse, the construction of "May", Mother's Day celebration, twice a year feast with feast entertainment, the mentioned Dzedziny Day, sitting for retirees, a Christmas concert by local artists, New Year's Eve fireworks and other social events. The oldest of the local associations is the voluntary fire brigade, which they founded in 1929. Of the sports disciplines, football and hockey are the most popular, thanks to which Oreské has a dignified representation in regional competitions. Customs and traditions also help to keep young people in the village, which is a good promise for its further development. The village also tries to maintain cultural traditions by expanding and increasing the costumes. And one more important piece of information for those who want to be seduced by the smell of fancy local cakes. The picturesque Záhorská village of Oreské lies in the lap of the Chvojnická uplands approximately fourteen kilometers southeast of the district town of Skalica. It's a good place to live. They try to create conditions for individual housing construction and retention of young people in the region.
