The village of Blatná na Ostrove

Blatná na Ostrove was owned by aristocratic families, first owned by the Kéméndi family, later by the Földes family. In the 18th century, most of the land and buildings belonged to the Bittó family, which lasted until 1945. From this family came István Bittó (1822-1903) statesman, Minister of Justice, in 1874-75 Prime Minister of Hungary.

The current communal church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1721 in the Baroque style as a chapel of the Bittó family. An important artistic value of the church is the ancient statue of the Madonna dating from around 1400. Two classicist mansions date from the early 19th century. Ludovicks Nagy's census from 1828 mentions 68 houses and 521 inhabitants of the village.
According to the 1991 census, the area of the village is 1078 ha and the population is 801. The national composition is as follows: 752 Hungarian, 44 Slovak, 1 Moravian and 4 Roma; the religion of the population is as follows: 637 Roman Catholic, 15 Evangelical and 149 other or non-religious. Number of residential houses - 139.
The name of the village is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1286 and later in a document from 1328 as "Sáralja". It should be remembered that there is also a document from 1075, which mentions the village with this name in Bratislava Castle Spain, but according to Arnold Ipolyi, it is not identical with today's Blatná on the Island. The name could have been derived from the Hungarian name for muddy and barinate places (sár, sáros), which in the Middle Ages were quite numerous in the area of the village. The addition of the suffix "falva" and its later abbreviation "fa" created today's Hungarian name Sárosfa. This is also proved by the mentioned donation (donation) deed, which is still mentioned by the village Sáralja (Pod blatami) and by which Charles I donated the local lands to a certain Dominik, Peter's son. We will meet the current Hungarian name of the village for the first time in a document from the time of Sigismund, and this is how the village is mentioned in the portal census from 1553, where 3 ports of Petr Kéméndi are mentioned.

In the first half of the 17th century, the Földes family owned larger property here, and a deed of donation from 1651 states that Ferenc and István Földeš family acquire additional property here. At that time, the Bittó family also appeared in the village, who eventually became the sole owners and Blatná na Ostrove became their ancestral seat until the collapse of the monarchy. The family archive is said to contain several documents relating to the history of the village. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Béni, István and Dénes Bittó family houses have their mansions here. According to old documents, the village belonged to the solitudes of Macháza (Macov) and Újfal (Nová Ves is mentioned in the success of 1553 as Wyjfalw), which had been owned by the Vass and Földes families since 1560 and to which in 1596 they received additional property.
