The first Slovak school on Žitný ostrov was established in the Hviezdoslav colony. In 1938, of the 69 families living here, 21 were Slovak, 18 Moravian, 15 Czech, 14 Hungarian and 1 German.
In the years 1938 - 1945, the village became part of Štvrtek na Ostrove. It was re-established as an independent village in 1945. The buildings of Pálffy Majer, the monument to PO Hviezdoslav from 1971 and the buildings of Maj. Wiener - Welten deserve attention in the village.
