The first written mention of the village is documented in the Zobor deed from 1113 as Narias. The name of the village is derived from the Hungarian word nyárfa - poplar. In the 16th century it occurs in the connection Toós - Nyárasd - Jazerná Topoľnica. The village belonged to the landowning families Méreyov (1533), Balassy (1646), Baranyay (1646) and part of the Hody estate since the 13th century. The village of Páoľce, which was part of the Šintava estate, also belongs to the village of Topoľnica. Until 1955, the settlement belonged to Matuškov.
