The first documented reports on Velké Šúrovce and Zemianské Šúrovce are from 1241 and 1256, about Varov Šúri from 1423 and Valtov Šúri from 1426. Archaeological excavations have confirmed the settlement as early as the Neolithic, but there are also known finds from the Roman-Barbarian period as well as from the settlement of the Great Moravian. The owners of the villages have long been the Hlohovec chateau (manor). From the beginning of the 16th century, the landowners were the owners of the Šintava castle, and from 1816 the manor in Bernolákov (Čeklíš estate). The property was taken over around 1635 by the old county family of the Esterházy family. A historical attraction is the battle of the Hungarian troops of King Sigismund on April 14, 1430 with the Hussites not far from today's area of the Valtov Šúr part.
The well-known seals of municipalities are valuable source material for the history of the former municipalities. The population was engaged in agriculture and livestock. Embroidery was widespread in Šúrovce and Valt Šur, and basketry in Varov Šur.

Among the most interesting historical monuments of the village is the Church of St. Michal, which was built in the years 1793 - 1811 on the site of the old one, which is mentioned as early as 1322, but it is probable that he was already here in 1291, when the first parish is mentioned. It was built in the Classicist style. A chapel of the Virgin Mary of Sorrows was built in Zemianské Šúrovce in 1869. At the site of the older bell tower after the drowning of 14 parishioners, who were transported by boat through Váh to the pilgrimage of St. Urbana, was built in 1885 the church of St. Joseph in Varov Sur. After the donation of the natives of America, in 1910 the church of the Divine Heart was built in Valtov Shuri. In front of the parish church, in the middle of the roundabout, there is a sculpture of the Holy Trinity from 1781 on a pillar. Near the parish church is a monument to those killed in the war.
The village has built a comprehensive civic amenities with services. The organizations operating in the village include the Voluntary Fire Brigade, the Šúrovanka brass band, the pensioners' club, gardeners, chess players, and the OZ Mladých.
