In the city district, most of Bratislava's cultural monuments - starting with Bratislava Castle towering over the Danube - are the unofficial logo not only of the city, but of the whole of Slovakia, through the Gothic Cathedral of St. Martin, Michalská Tower, under which the Korzo, sought after by tourists and Bratislava, begins, all the way to the original and the new Slovak National Theater or the beautiful Medical Garden. The seat is here of the parliament, the president and the government office. In the territory of the Old Town, there are more employees per day than the inhabitants of the city district, which places high demands on the administration of the area.
With an area of 9.6 km2, the Old Town is the third smallest but most densely populated part of Bratislava. As of 31 December 2018, the Old Town had 42,757 inhabitants. The demographic trend is a gradual slow decline of the population and an increase in its average age.
In the elections to the municipal self-government bodies on 10 November 2018, the following candidates were elected mayors and deputies of the local council:
Ing. arch. Zuzana Aufrichtová (Freedom and Solidarity, Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (Oľano), Christian Democratic Movement, We Are the Family - Boris Kollár, Civic Conservative Party, Nova, Change from Below, Democratic Union of Slovakia).
