The village of Tchaikovsky

The village of Čajkov is located in the northern part of the Levice district, near the Hron river. It is part of the Nitra region. The Tchaikovsky area has an area of 2394 ha. It borders the area of Rybník in the west and southwest, the area of Tekovská Breznice in the north, the area of Hronské Kosíh in the south and the areas of Nová Dedina and Devičany in the east.

The predominant part of the Tchaikovsky area is formed by the ridges and slopes of the Štiavnica hills. There are two important valleys - Bukovská and Sovia. Tchaikovsky lies at an altitude of 190 m above sea level. The highest point in the area of the village is located on the southern slopes of Priesil (710 m). Although the highest of the three peaks of the Priesil (747 m) no longer belongs to the area of the village, this dominant of the Štiavnica hills is considered to be the "Tchaikovsky hill".
The most beautiful floor on the Teak area and the wide surroundings is from the top andesite rocks of the forested elevation of Varta (617 m). From this place you can see the whole Sovia valley, Nova Dedina, Bátovce, Jabloňovce and other villages. In the background, the highest peak of the Štiavnica Hills Sitno (1009 m) dominates. The distinctive Vápnik hill (274 m) near Levíce rises from the Ipeľ Hills. The Priesil hill rises to the north (747 m). The northern part of the Tchaikovsky District was incorporated into the Štiavnické vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The Tchaikovsky Bralie nature trail makes the beauty of the surrounding nature accessible to the public.
The village of Čajkov belongs to the so-called Chilean villages. It is characterized by the fact that the traditional Tekov costume is still worn here and is spoken by a soft type of Central Slovak dialect, the so-called Chilean dialect. Women from Tchaikovsky still master the art of demanding richly decorated costumes. They are also known outside Slovakia to create costumed dolls. In Tchaikovsky, the traditions of ancestors are still preserved, such as the construction of May or the dressing for Easter. Tchaikovsky residents and visitors from all over the region commemorate local folklore at the Tchaikovsky vintage celebrations, which take place on the occasion of the end of the grape harvest.

Tchaikovsky is known for its vineyards and quality wine. Most people grow grapes here and their roots date back to the 11th century. Thanks to him, emigration for a robot to America did not spread in Tchaikovsky in the difficult times of the great economic crisis, and despite collectivization in the 1950s, the vineyards did not fall out of the hands of their owners. Although viticulture has lost its existential significance for the locals today, it is still an integral part of life in Tchaikovsky and an inexhaustible topic of conversation. As is the case with the wine-growing village, the local wine-growing association annually organizes a Regional Wine Tasting, which has a higher participation and quality from year to year.
In Tchaikovsky there is a municipal office, a cultural house, a post office, a Roman Catholic church of St. Mikuláša, parish, primary school for grades 1 - 9, kindergarten and school canteen, tennis courts, football field, gym, dental clinic, cemetery and mourning house, Vineyard Museum in the former kindergarten ....
