There is also a document in the state archives in which the name of Horné Semerovciec is first mentioned in the form of Felseu Zemered (MOL-DL-69-338). In the 15th century, the village is also mentioned under the name Eghazas Zemered.
The name of Baron Helenbach came to the village at the beginning of the 18th century and at the beginning of the 19th century they had a farm here. In the given period, in addition to them, the landowners Foldváryovci and Ivánkovci also worked in the village.
Imre Palugyay Jr. in his monograph he publishes data from the census in 1850: population 359, of which 24 inhabitants declared their German nationality, 71 Slovak and 259 Hungarian Hungarian. The Germans were members of manorial families, the Slovaks acted as imported servants. During this period, 31 landowners lived in the village, there were 12 houses built with land, 3 ironworks and 2 manor buildings. The territory of the village was occupied by 1896 cadastral jutors, the annual income was 6022 forints. The main activity of the population was agriculture.
At the census in 1890, 612 inhabitants were registered in the village, of which 507 inhabitants had Hungarian nationality, 11 German, 91 Slovak and 3 other nationalities. The population grew to 696 by 1900. Most of them were engaged in agriculture in total (300), the others worked as craftsmen (21), tradesmen (4), gendarmes (49), officials (5) ....
Official statistics in 1991 show 685 citizens, including 449 Hungarian nationals.
In 2001, there were exactly 633 inhabitants of the village.
