Hlohovec stretches in a valley between the southern outcrop of the Považský Inovec massif and part of the Nitra Uplands. According to the typification of the current country, the city belongs to the urban type of lowland landscape. The river Váh, the longest Slovak river, flows through the city. Hlohovec is a crossroads between the historic towns of Trnava and Nitra, close to the world-famous spa Piešťany.

The most important and dominant architectural and historical monument of the city is the castle, originally a medieval castle. It is a building in the shape of an irregular pentagon with three floors. It has about 40 rooms. After the necessary reconstruction, in the future it can serve as a representative seat, tourist and recreational facility, cultural and social center, etc. Part of the castle is a chapel with a baroque altar. In the area of the chateau there is also a building of a unique Empire theater from 1802. This rare historical building excels especially in the Empire interior and exterior decoration. It is the oldest preserved theater building in Slovakia. In the middle of the town square stands the originally Gothic parish church of St. Michala with a richly decorated portal. At present, the church holds regular services and ceremonies. Next to the church is the chapel of St. Anny from the 18th century. Near the square is an interesting building of the Church of St. Spirit and hospital dating from the 14th century. Both buildings served charitable and religious purposes in the Middle Ages. With its unusual floor plan and without defining the presbytery, the church of St. The spirit among the unique buildings in Slovakia. On the northern edge of the city center is the Franciscan monastery with the adjacent church of All Saints from the 15th century. Part of the monastery serves its original purpose, part is used by the Museum of Homeland Studies. The most valuable space of the monastery is the refectory / original monastic dining room / decorated with a Renaissance-Baroque stucco ceiling, dating from the 17th century with an exhibition of historic furniture. It serves as an urban representative ceremonial space. The most beautiful and most visited natural unit of the city is the castle park with French terraces. It includes a pond, many trees in a forest park environment and a unique concentration of massive and rare plane trees. The park is the recreation center of the city's inhabitants. On the edge of the park there is a public swimming pool.
