No legends or written monuments have been preserved about the origin of the village and its name. The oldest names of the village are Zenthgwrh (1466), Zenthgergh (1564), Zenthgurgh and on the seal from the beginning of the 17th century is S. Irihi and in 1715 the Latin name Sanctus Georgius.
The Lakšár stream flows in the southern part of the area. The north-flowing stream Studená voda flows into Lakšár, which since 1964 feeds two successive water reservoirs called Cold Water I and II, popularly "Lakes Lásek" with an area of 40 ha.
It is known from history that vineyards already existed in the village in 1715, where noble grape species were grown until the nineties of the 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, fruit growing developed in the village. Local teachers led their students to grow fruit trees in the tree nursery in the so-called "Panšule".
Of the steppe animals (meadows, fields and pastures), rodents have been preserved in the village area - ground squirrel, hamster, hare, wild rabbit and mouse species - field vole. Of the birds, it is the partridge, the quail, the woodpecker, the crested grebe on the pastures, the white stork in the meadows, the wild duck in the swamps and water reservoirs, the water hen - the grebe. The animal community of deciduous and pine forests is represented by wild black thrush, great tit, woodpecker, common corn, green green, common cuckoo, red fox, roe deer and red deer.
