The first written mention of the village is from 1394. Plavecký Peter played an important role in protecting the western borders against raids from the Czech Republic. The original seat was established on the hill of the Little Carpathians below Žobráčka. The village was part of the manor of the Swimming Castle, with the exception of the years 1496 - 1550, when it belonged to the manor of Ostrý Kameň.

One source states that the name of the village is derived from the time of settlement of the area by Polovce, according to the founder of the family - Peter, another, that the name was given to the village in honor of an ancestor from the Baláž family - owners of the Swimming Castle. In 1408 the village is called Sanctus Petrus, in 1773 Plawacky Swaty Peter, 1808 as Plawacky Swaty Petr. In 1871, as part of the Hungarianization efforts, the name of the village was also Hungarianized as Detreko Szent Peter. In 1917, the village is again listed as Plavecký Svätý Peter and from 1960 as Plavecký Peter.
