The basis of the word Unín is formed by the word unij, which has the meaning of big, tall and secondarily better. Throughout the historical period, the village belonged to the Holíč estate. It was burned down during the Hussite invasions in May 1439. However, according to censuses from the middle of the 15th century, we know that it paralyzed one of the most populous settlements in northern Záhorie.
