The village of Kátov lies on the left bank of the Morava River in the northwestern tip of western Slovakia. The seat is closely connected with the river Moravia, which in the past also determined the life of its inhabitants. During the floods, it spilled over a wide area and flooded almost the entire area. The flood conditions of the river are a thing of the past after the construction of the dams, but they left a permanent signature on the face of the area. Nature around Moravia provides a pleasant environment for relaxation, fishing, quiet observation and getting to know plants and animals.

The first written mention of the village lying on the floodplain of the Morava River dates from 1392. Today there live about 600 inhabitants. The village and its history is closely connected with the river Moravia. In the past, it determined the lives of its inhabitants, during floods it spilled over a wide area and flooded almost the entire area. The floods are a thing of the past after the dams were built, but they left a permanent signature here. The soil is formed by massive deposits of gravel and sand brought by Moravia from the upper parts of the basin. The emblem of the village is also dominated by water. Its motif points to the long-term employment of the inhabitants of the village - fishing and shipping. The municipality of Kátov still uses the emblem of the village, which forms a shield, in the blue field of which is a silver boat with two oars and about six golden five-pointed stars.

The eastern part of the village is intensively used for agriculture, the western edge is lined with floodplain forests. Despite the intensive use of the land, areas have been preserved which, by the occurrence of plant and animal species, meet the criteria for stricter protection. Nature around Moravia provides a pleasant environment for relaxation, fishing or quiet observation and learning about plants and animals. The dominant feature of the village is the Church of St. Imrich, the Evangelical bell tower, a small building of the Passion of Christ and a wooden cross from 1921. Kátovci people associate in several associations, such as the Red Cross, the Union of Women or the Union of Pensioners. In cooperation with the municipality, they participate in the organization of events, such as the kindergarten carnival, Children's Day, thanks for the harvest, sitting for pensioners, Sweet Sunday, St. Nicholas, a Christmas concert and others. Since 2001, the village has held extremely popular Flower Days every May. New family houses are gradually growing in the Žliabky locality.
