Šenkvice Elementary School

Throughout its history, the Šenkvice school has changed many official names, premises and staff. However, it is still a school that has the ambition with real contours - to be a quality and innovative educational institution in the background of the 18th largest municipality in the Slovak Republic.

Historical milestones of the Primary School in Šenkvice

From the information and sources below, it logically follows that the school in Šenkvice must have existed before the first written mention in 1618. The inhabitants of Veľké Šenkvíce built a new school building near the church, but soon the parish occupied its premises.

1618
the first written mention of the Šenkvice school (in the urbarial census of the Pezinok estate), used the premises of the iron house - later the Catholic House, today bowling - and taught reading, writing and counting the language of the local population (Croatian at the time) - the school served both municipalities - Malé and Veľké Šenkviceam, as neither municipality was able to maintain its own school independently
1634
the teacher taught 12 to 15 pupils (usually boys) in Croatian, the teacher's salary has changed over the course of history - through gold, wheat and other foods or shackles of wine to wood - he received from parishioners, the village itself, owners of mansions (he was also paid for the function organist, singing at Masses, caroling, ringing against storms or at Dušičky, etc.)
1756
The function of a teacher was also connected with the role of organist, bell ringer and even notary on the grounds of the Šenkvice school - due to the notarial duties of the teacher the teaching itself often could not even take place - but the teacher owned only a garden with several fruit trees

1756
children went to school exclusively for teaching during the winter (due to domestic help for the rest of the year), but even then their number did not exceed 30 people
1781
teacher Tomáš Zabitý spoke Slovak and mastered the basics of German (which means that in the previous period Croatian was taught, but the population of Šenkvíc continued to use the Croatian language)
1788
repair of the school building, replacement of the straw roof cover with a slate roof
1822
the school (as well as the whole school system) "fought" with the lack of teaching aids, the teacher was still obliged to perform the function of a notary - they were already learning Slovak, in the village the Croatian language was already significantly mixed with Slovak (assimilation took place)

1880
the number of pupils began to grow rapidly (soon to 150 people), which exceeded the capacity of a single class - the school needed more space and another teacher - by 1888 a new class was added and major changes occurred in the case of a teacher's apartment in the same building
1888
new teacher Ján Lédeczy found a school without equipment - the village provided a board, wall boards, table and chair, but was not willing to get a counter (eventually made by the teacher himself)
1891

according to the preserved documents, it can be assumed that despite strong Hungarianization, Hungarian was only one of the subjects, not the language of instruction of the school and the administration of the school was not in charge of either one of the two teachers, but the local clergyman.

1900
The urgent situation with a lack of school premises was also solved by the church school administration, but the local school chair (headed by the clergy) did not decide on further construction or reconstruction of the school.

1907
Due to the inconvenient solution of the spatial problems of the school in Veľké Šenkvice, the municipality of Malé Šenkvice decided to build its own school building, which was opened this year. However, the departure of Malošenkvice students did not have an improving effect on the capacity of the Velké Šenkvice school. nearby railway)

1907
the beginning of the period of strong Hungarianization also in the Šenkvice school, a kindergarten was established in the village, but with the primary goal of Hungarianizing children at an early age - for ignorance of Hungarian prayer, corporal punishment was punished even in the school year 1918/1919
1919

The arrival of a new political establishment was accompanied for the Šenkvice school by the abolition of Hungarian as the language of instruction, the renaming of the school to the "Roman Catholic Folk School in Velké Šenkvice" and the use of the Slovak syllabary and other aids - Slovak reading books, geographical textbooks, etc.
1924
the school continued to "struggle" with the lack of teaching aids, but in 1924 Modran - ElemírKantek (who was the first in the position of the third teacher of the school) came here as a teacher, who not only built the school cabinet on his own and by hand, but also stimulated the school's cultural life - organized "Mikulášov", theatrical performances, it was Kantek who founded a circle activity at the school (which continues to this day), etc.

1946
from this year, the state school administration began to contribute to the activities of the šenkvice school with high financial resources, for the school it meant a period of unprecedented prosperity
1952
Following the active activities of its predecessors, a new principal came to the school - a two-class school in Malé Čaníkovce - Mr. Edmund Heyder and his wife Helena as a teacher. They actively participated and organized cultural life in this part of today's Šenkvíce - Edmund Heyder initiated the creation of bus connections between the railway station and Malé Čaníkovce and the construction of a water supply system in a former independent village
1953
after several short term of office of the school administrators, Henrich Lančarič, a native of Šenkvice and later a chronicler of the village, was entrusted with the function of the school director, and our school is grateful to this day.
1960
Completion of 1 year of construction work on a new, 14-class building, which grew up in the district of "Poluselka" on the emerging street "Zahace" (now the building of the 2nd grade of elementary school on Vinohradská street) thanks to significant help from Šenkvičans themselves - especially during its construction - the building already included a chemical-physical laboratory, previously "unknown" locker rooms, a director's office, a choir room, 4 cabinets, a room for a school doctor and sanitary facilities - only a suitable space for the gym was significantly missing, so the corridors themselves were used for this purpose - teaching in this building began on November 21, 1960

1965
Edmund Heyder went to teach in Bratislava, the position of director in the "Cerov school" was taken over by his wife - Mr. Helena Heyderová, who ran the school until its abolition
1969
the number of pupils began to decline due to low birth rates in previous years
1976
abolition of the former independent primary school in Malé Šenkvice (and Čaníkovce), after the merger of municipalities in 1964 this school bore the name "ZŠ Šenkvice, Cerovská ulica" - after this decision the students of the two-grade school with 4 years were transferred to the school in former Velké Šenkvice
1976
after the departure of director Lančarič, Ján Kupkovič took his place
1981
in november, after the departure of Ján Kupkovič from the position of school principal, p. Anna Gáliková, the position of deputy remained p. Ľudmila Zelníková
1983
change of the school name from "Basic nine-year school" to "Basic eight-year school in Šenkvice" (due to the reduction of school attendance from 9 to 8 years)

1991
Behind the building of the primary school on Vinohradská Street, the construction of a large gym was completed this year, which also includes changing rooms for athletes, a gym for the citizens and a service apartment of the building administrator - it was built as part of "Action Z" with the help of parents of the school's students.
1991
after three years of construction, the second pavilion of the school complex on Vinohradská Street was opened (originally it was supposed to stand in much smaller Záhorské Gajary, which, thanks to the demographic development of Šenkvíc and contacts at the District National Committee, was reversed in favor of our village - the purpose was to build a school canteen and school group - the building is one-storey and basement
1991
due to busy political changes and turnover, Anna Gáliková was replaced by her deputy Mgr. Božena Pecníková, who taught at the school at that time for an admirable 33 years - she appointed Mgr. Dagmar Brunovská
1993
reconstruction of the boiler room in the building on Vinohradská street (transition from solid fuel to gas)
1995
in the interest of saving money, the district office terminated the teaching in the "old school" building, the teaching thus moved entirely to the school buildings on Vinohradská street

1996
retirement Mgr. Božena Pecníková was appointed director of the Šenkvice primary school by the director of the School Administration - Mgr. Dagmar Brunovská, under her leadership, the school was involved in several projects - Infovek, Green School, Blue School, Daffodil Day, Komparo, Behave normally, Healthy School and others - Mgr. Eva Augustínová, who has been replaced by Mgr. Janka Tomasovicova
1998
the renewal of eight-year attendance caused the renewal of the teaching process in the "old school" building (this was preceded by complete painting and cleaning work) - second and third year classes were placed here, later also the fourth year and for a certain period also the first year. In the building on Vinohradská Street, the floors in the school canteen and in the entrance hall were replaced.
2002
the school gained legal personality, while the village of Šenkvice became its founder
2003
again, due to financial savings, the teaching was completely and definitively moved to the complex of school buildings on Vinohradská Street. The "old school" building was handed over to the municipality and a few years later rebuilt into an apartment building

2004
construction of the first computer room with internet connection, a year later another
2008
Extensive reconstruction of women's toilets, repair of the roof in the connecting corridors and the beginning of the replacement of old windows with plastic ones
2010
gradual replacement of plastic windows on both school buildings, including their connecting corridor. This year also saw the reconstruction of the main entrance and repair of the roof of the 1st grade elementary school building
2011
the beginning of a three-year period of complete renovation of buildings - reconstruction of the boiler room, heating distribution throughout the building, repair of locker rooms, construction of a library collection and purchase of furniture for classrooms - in the entire 2nd grade and partly in the 1st grade. A CO warehouse, a school archive and a school workshop were built in the cellars of the 1st grade building. A playground was built in the school yard and the fencing of the school premises was repaired.

2014
in the spring, the insulation of school buildings on Vinohradská Street began (completed in autumn 2014), followed by the replacement of lighting and new painting, the replacement of the last wooden and metal windows with plastic ones and the reconstruction of men's toilets
2014
retirement Mgr. Dagmar Brunovská (on 30 June 2014 - after 34 years of work in the Šenkvice primary school and a total of 44 years of work in education) successfully passed the selection procedure for the position of the new director of the primary school, Mr. Iveta Rimanová - the current principal of the school, whose term of office lasts until 2019
2016
Due to the significantly increasing number of inhabitants of Šenkvíc (construction of new residential areas), the number of primary school pupils is also increasing - this year the kindergarten expanded its premises by 3 new classes, as the chairman of the Education Commission OZ Šenkvice - Ing. Martin Stránsky, soon the municipality will have to invest in the expansion of primary school premises, as in the current period 2 new classrooms have been created at the expense of technical premises (classrooms for teaching technical education, etc.)
