From its inception, it led to the position of an independent specialized national museum with nationwide operations, operating in the network of the Slovak National Museum similarly to other minority museums. This process took place in 2006. The workplace moved to a new building, built for this purpose, on Istrijská Street in Devínská Nová Ves.
The museum is a documentary, scientific research and methodological museum workplace focused on the history and culture of Croats in Slovakia from their arrival in the territory of today's Slovakia to the present. The museum collects, protects, professionally processes and presents material documents related to its profiling.
