The Ľudovít Štúr Museum was established in 1965 in Modra, the place of Štúr's last rest. Since its inception, it has focused on the presentation and building of the collection and study fund, especially on the personality of Ľudovít Štúr, as well as on the history and cultural and ethnographic traditions of Modra and the surrounding region. So far, we have managed to collect 19,000 library collections, divided into a literary-historical library, a professional library, a personal library of Dr. Jozef Ambruš and a special library. The collection with more than 5,000 items contains mainly ethnographic collections of ceramics and folk textiles, furniture and wooden or metal objects from the history of Modra. The archive fund protects about 5,000 photographs and archive units.
The Ľudovít Štúr Museum currently offers visitors four permanent exhibitions: Ľudovít Štúr and Modern Slovakia, the Ľudovít Štúr Memorial Room and the Museum of Slovak Ceramic Sculpture together with the Ignác Bizmayer Gallery.
The most numerous group of visitors consists of school youth, group visits from Slovakia and foreign visitors. Thanks to them, in 1995 the Ľudovít Štúr Museum welcomed its one millionth visitor.
