The Museum of the Police of the Slovak Republic, as the only specialized facility of its kind in the Slovak Republic, focuses on documenting the establishment, development and activities of security and police authorities in Slovakia.
The museum's permanent exhibition is divided into three basic parts:
- History, origin and development of security forces in Slovakia until 1989
- Establishment and current activities of the Police Force of the Slovak Republic
- Thematic part - dedicated to criminology, traffic police, Interpol and international cooperation
In the final part of the museum, the crime scene is staged.
The Museum emphasizes the necessity of the existence of police authorities in every state governed by the rule of law, the need for their training and qualifications to perform criminal, law enforcement, transport services, as well as other activities related to the elimination of illegal and non-human phenomena in society.
The museum's rarest collection items include various historical documents related to police and gendarme activities from the period of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, as well as the first Czechoslovak Republic, original uniforms and other equipment components of gendarme, police and financial guard from 1918-1939. The museum has an interesting collection of weapons and current uniforms of foreign police forces. When supplementing its collections, it pays systematic attention to current criminal cases.
In the museum, due attention is paid to preventive activities aimed mainly at the young generation. These are educational events aimed at protecting children and young people from various types of drug addiction, juvenile delinquency, legal awareness education and traffic education and discipline.
