The re-establishment of the institution as a municipal museum took place in 1992. Since 1995, it has been operating in two buildings - at J. Rotarides 13 (Hontian Museum) and at Pivničná 1 (Ľudovít Simonyi Gallery, formerly Hontian Gallery).
Exhibitions: There are still exhibitions of ethnography and history of the Hontian region in the Hontian Museum. Short-term art exhibitions in the Ľudovít Simonyi Gallery. The institution also provides art exhibitions for the Menor Saag Centrum Artis (restored synagogue on Bartók Square in Šahy).
Other activities: The institution deals with archaeological research in the region, organizes social science lectures and patriotic excursions.
Other points of interest: Holocaust Memorial in the courtyard of the Hontian Museum, memorial plaque of the 100-year-old Hontian-County Museum Society and memorial plaque of Elemér Pongrácz on the facade of the Hontian Museum, a sculpture by Adriena Kutakova entitled Relationships in the courtyard of the Ľudovít Simonyi Gallery.
