History
The location of the Smolenický chateau is on the northern side of the village. It was built at the beginning of our century on the ruins of an old castle. The old castle was built in the middle of the 15th century. Individual owners enlarged it and adapted it to their needs and tastes. The current Smolenický chateau began to be built at the beginning of our century, the owner of the Smolenický and dobrovodské estates, Count Jozef Pálffy senior (1853-1920). Count Pálffy had the castle built under his own direction according to the design of the architect Jozef Hubert.

The current Smolenický chateau began to be built at the beginning of our century, the owner of the Smolenický and dobrovodské estates, Count Jozef Pálffy senior (1853-1920). Count Pálffy had the castle built under his own direction according to the design of the architect Jozef Hubert.

The completed and modernized chateau was handed over by the SNR to the Slovak Academy of Sciences on the day of its birth, June 26, 1953. The Smolenický chateau has since become the Home of Scientists of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. In order to be able to serve scientists perfectly, it also became a representative place for meetings of foreign scientists with our leading scholars. And so at the beginning of 1955, the new owner of the SAS chateau proceeded to the second stage of the completion of the chateau. In the second stage, electrical installations, central heating, sewerage and water supply, hot water distribution, medical equipment of the buildings, the equipment of the presidential table and the meeting hall were made. The second stage of the completion of the chateau ended in 1957.
