The new SND building was designed by architects Martin Kusý, Pavol Paňák and Peter Bauer, whose architectural design won the competition of fifty-three projects. The building has seven floors, more than two thousand rooms and three main halls (Opera and Ballet Hall, Drama Hall, Studio). The new SND building also has a restaurant for 120 people, a club, espresso, libreso and cuisine.

The nobility of the building of the Slovak National Theater is also supported by several exterior as well as interior works of art. In front of the new building is a fountain by Alexander Biľkovič, Iľja Skoček and Pavel Bauer. In the entrance hall there is a spring of architect Bauer and painter Dušan Buřil, in front of the building there is a cascade of Petr Roller and two towers of architect Bauer. In addition to the works of art that are part of the building, theatrical costumes and exhibitions will be located in the theater.
The building was opened on April 14, 2007 at 7 p.m. by cutting the tape in front of the central part of the new SND building. The President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič and the Minister of Culture Marek Maďarič also took part in it.
