We are a member of Antenna - a network for independent culture and Trans Europe Halles, the largest pan-European network of cultural and creative centers.
The Malý Berlín Cultural Center has been prepared in close cooperation with Trnka Investments since 2013. It finally opened on March 2, 2018. Until this happened, we held cultural events in various places in the city, but especially in the temporary Berliner cultural space on Pekárská 40. We opened it in September 2014 and closed it in mid-2017. As part of the preparations for the opening of the cultural center, it enabled us to learn in practice and start some of the activities in advance. You can read more about the activities at Berliner DKP in the catalog, which summarizes its almost three years of activity.
The Little Berlin Cultural Center is a project of the civic association Publikum.sk.
Why the name Little Berlin? The name Little Rome is known to everyone outside of Trnava. He talks about the history, and a bit about the present of the city. On the other hand, Little Berlin should refer to the future that we see for Trnava in the development of culture and creative industries. And today Berlin is considered the center of independent culture in Europe. We want to take the best of both worlds and create something truly unique here.
Who is the center's program for? We want to do everything to make it really for everyone. It should not be a place exclusively for alternative culture and art, although it will of course have its place in our country as well. Little Berlin should be gradually open all day so that schools, families with children, young people, university students, adult audiences and seniors can find something for themselves here. Already today we try to capture the needs and specifics of individual audience groups so that we can make not only an interesting program, but also on the right days and times.
What are our goals? Ambitious. We want to make Little Berlin the center of the cultural life of Trnava and its wider surroundings and one of the most important symbols representing Trnava in Slovakia and abroad.
