NKP Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

It stands on a slight rise above a place called Garda. Just in front of the church, in the past, there was a beautiful massive linden tree, which was even drawn on aerial maps as a landmark. Currently, it no longer exists because it dried up and was sawed off.

The church was built in 1756 in the Baroque style and after 1843,
when the reconstruction took place, the empire style prevails in it. It was enlarged to its current size and appearance in 1896. Under the part of the church there is an unmaintained crypt, without a specific date of construction and without written records.
The church has a single-nave floor plan of a rectangular shape with a polygonal closure. It has a flat ceiling, a built-in tower and a brick framed choir with an organ from 1843. There are two bells on the tower under the dome without further marking. The facades are divided by semicircular arched windows and, to a slight extent, by a bossage. The two windows in the polygonal shutter are colored. They depict the Virgin Mary with a little Jesus on her hands and St. Antona. A small vestibule is added to the main entrance from the west side, the so-called žebračnica. Two folk stone sculptures (the corpus of Christ on the Cross and St. John the Evangelist) from the middle of the 18th century are bricked up on its corners from the outside. From the north side of the church there is a small sacristy with a brick staircase to the pulpit. The roof is covered with eternit and the dome of the tower is covered with copper sheet. The entrance to the choir and the tower is a wooden spiral staircase directly from the church.

The small sanctuary is elevated from the nave of the church by one step and separated by a low wrought iron net, the so-called Šrank. The interior of the sanctuary is created by a pseudo-Romanesque altar from 1896 with a glazed display case and a sculpture of a sculpture of a small child of the Virgin Mary in the womb of St. Anny and St. Joachym. The sides are complemented by sculptures of the Heart of Jesus and the Heart of the Virgin Mary. On the masonry ledges of the polygonal closure there are sculptures of St. Stephen and St. Wenceslas. In the brick niche of the right wall there is a sculpture of the Rosary of the Virgin Mary. The sanctuary is completed by a smaller bench for the prayer and a larger one for local fees.

In the interior of the nave there is a polychrome wood carving of a baroque Pieta from the end of the 18th century on an undergrown ledge. On the left side, there are several smaller sculptures on the masonry ledges. From the free-hanging paintings located in the church, we can mention the oil painting of St. Jozefa, a painting of the Virgin Mary of Trnava and oil paintings of the Stations of the Cross of medium size, which are hung on the walls throughout the nave. On the left wall was a pulpit with a polygonal parapet from 1896.

The most valuable monument in the church is the oil painting of St. Joseph of a larger format. In the chronicle of the Municipality of Ratkovce it is written that according to oral tradition it should be an altar image of the original small church, which was first a chapel and stood on the site of today's church, from 1706. The inscription about it was found on a plaque found during the repair 1969th

In 1934, construction and painting work was carried out in the church. The organ choir was extended by about 3 meters towards the altar. The interior of the church is painted for the first time in the form we know it today. Above the presbytery are four circular paintings as if in the form of a wreath: St. Don Bosco, vol. Joseph with little Jesus, St. Terezka Ježiškova and St. Elizabeth. In the center of the nave is a large elliptical ceiling painting depicting "Speech Up". The arrival of our confidants Constantine and Methodius to Great Moravia is shown on the left wall on the side of the baroque pulpit. The oil plinth, about 140 - 150 cm high, imitates marble wall cladding. The original oil paintings of the Stations of the Cross of a larger format were sold out to the citizens because they did not fit into the interior painting. They are replaced by images of gravure printing in the interior painting. They are replaced by images of the gravure of the Stations of the Cross, adapted in size to the painting. The costs of carrying out construction work and paintings were paid by the citizens from the collections and charity. The catering of painters was from the so-called Advice, which means that a painter brought food to the church every day for a different housewife.
