The castle ruin rising on a high cliff above the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers is one of the most important historical and archaeological sites in Central Europe. In addition, it offers a charming natural scenery with a unique view.

It is one of the most important historical and archaeological sites in Central Europe and uniquely documents the history of the settlement of today's Slovakia. Due to its strategic location, the castle hill was inhabited in prehistoric times and was controlled or fought by many nations. The Celts lived here, the Romans controlled their border from it, the Slavs built the dreaded fortress here, and later the castle guarded the western border of the Hungarian kingdom for centuries. It was conquered many times, but was always repaired and reinforced again. In the end, it was not destroyed in battle, but unjustifiably blown up by the French army in 1809. Whoever is not impressed by several thousand years of history will be enchanted by the natural scenery and fantastic views.

The place at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers has been inhabited since prehistoric times. After the Celts from the 1st - 4th century, Devín was part of the Limes romanus system. In the 9th century it is associated with the name of Prince Rastislav. Gradually, a border royal fortress was built on the upper castle. In 1809 the castle was destroyed by Napoleonic troops. In 1961 he was declared an NKP.
