They restored the observation tower, added a Gothic chapel, and built the first fort with two bastions at the medieval core of the castle. At the end of the 15th century, the castle burned down again. The Révai family undertook a thorough repair - they built a second fortification with a new gate, a protected semicircular bastion and a square tower. At the beginning of the 17th century, a comfortable Renaissance manor house was built in the forecourt. He survived the anti-Habsburg uprisings and was the seat of the Turčianska seat until the construction of a stool house in Martin (1772). The old castle was slowly crumbling, the lower part with the Renaissance manor house was habitable until the Second World War. At the end of 1944, during a military action, the Germans blew up the manor and burned it together with Sklabinský Podzámek. The castle walls in the picturesque foothills of the Great Fatra are only a romantic destination for Sunday walks.
The castle also includes a museum, which can be visited and get acquainted with the history of the castle and its owners. Since they breed the original breed of goats, you may have a chance to taste dairy products.
