The castle was built on a volcanic cover on the southern foothills of the Vihorlat Hills at an altitude of 325.3 m above sea level. It was demolished at the beginning of the 18th century. From the castle hill there is a view of the East Slovakian lowlands, you can see the town of Michalovce and Zemplínská šírava.
Viniansky Castle was declared a cultural monument in 1963.
Hradný vrch is occupied by the Viniansky hradný vrch Nature Reserve, declared in 1984 on an area of 51.96 ha with the 4th degree of nature protection. The nature reserve was expanded in 1988 in order to protect the southern slopes of the castle hill of Vinianske castle inhabited by thermophilic forest-steppe and forest communities with the occurrence of rare species of flora and fauna.
Since 2011, the castle has been reconstructed and saved by the civic association Zemplínsko-užská hradná cesta, which is a member of the interest association Let's Save Castles. The castle complex is freely accessible for visitors.
