The most valuable architectural monument and symbol of Skalice is the Romanesque Rotunda of St. George. It stands on a small hill on the outskirts of the city and is one of the most beautiful Romanesque buildings in Slovakia. It was built as a castle church probably in the 12th century. It consists of a semicircular shrine and a circular nave, which have been preserved in their original form. The rotunda was modified at the beginning of the 15th century and incorporated into the walls. Inside, on both sides of the arch are Gothic murals representing St. Juraja struggling with a dragon.
