Parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

0 ratings
Renaissance-Baroque building built by the Pálffy and Erdödy families on the foundations of the original Gothic church. Extensive reconstruction took place in the years 1642 - 1644. The simple exterior of the Renaissance concept with the remains of Gothic architecture and with a beautiful pilaster portal contrasts with the rich interior decoration. The nave and presbytery are vaulted with a barrel vault with deep lunettes perched on side pilasters.

Parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

Renaissance-Baroque building built by the Pálffy and Erdödy families on the foundations of the original Gothic church. Extensive reconstruction took place in the years 1642 - 1644. The simple exterior of the Renaissance concept with the remains of Gothic architecture and with a beautiful pilaster portal contrasts with the rich interior decoration. The nave and presbytery are vaulted with a barrel vault with deep lunettes perched on side pilasters.

The vault is covered by a flat network of stucco decoration with strips of pearl and astragalian ornaments. The main altar is neo-Gothic with the original late Renaissance statue of the Madonna. The other furniture of the church is mostly of early Baroque character and belongs to the most beautiful that has been preserved in Slovakia from this period.
