Cave settlement of hunters in the early Stone Age
The research revealed a multi-layered settlement. The oldest of the last interglacial is represented by the Muster culture from the Middle Paleolithic, when it was inhabited by a Neanderthal man. It is the oldest known cave settlement in our country. This was followed by the settlement of the Szeletien culture from the Late Paleolithic. The chipped and retouched stone finds and snails from this locality can be connected with the finds from the Black Sea area.
View from inside the cave
It belongs to the tunnel-like caves and is passable on both sides. Its western gate-like portal, surrounded by bulbous protrusions, opens in an approximately 12 m high limestone cliff. Its width is 4.5 m and height 5.3 m. The cave is crossed by several tectonic cracks. It is 27 m long, on average 6 m wide and its maximum height is 4.6 m. Towards the eastern entrance, the height of the cave decreases. The interior is illuminated by a window opening on the north side. It was created by karsting dolomitic limestone at the formerly higher erosive base of Malý jarek, so it is of stream origin. It is a rare archaeological and paleontological site with evidence of multiple Paleolithic, Hallstatt settlement.
