Black lake Kežmarok

The black lake of Kežmarok lies in a small basin of the Green Lake Valley near the Cottage by the Green Lake on the sidewalk of the Tatra Highway in the High Tatras. The names Mauksch See, Mauksch-tó named this ball in honor of Pastor Tomáš Tobiáš Mauksch (1749 - 1832) from Veľký Slavkov, co-founder of Starý Smokovec, botanist and climatologist.

They named it the adjective Kežmarok in order to avoid confusion with other Black Balls in the High Tatras. Black is named because the bottom of the ball is formed by black humus and the adjective Kežmarok because it lies in the former Kežmarok area.

It has an area of 0.280 ha, is 98 m long, 38 m wide and 3.6 m deep. The elliptical moraine lake lies under the northern wall of the Little Kežmarok Peak at an altitude of 1,579 m above sea level
