They were built in 1603-0664 as protection against the Turks. They follow the outline of the city through a stone wall. Originally, they had five circular bastions, nine bastions (protruding protrusions used to fire attackers), two small side gates to the vineyards and four main gates. To this day, two sides of the walls and two side gates have been partially preserved.
